Section II
For most people in India, the festival of Holi signals the start of summer which can be very hot in many parts of the country. The long wait for the monsoon begins. The brick walls of the houses are small protection against the heat. In those parts of the country which are away from the coast, only those who are truly fearless and bold have the courage to venture out in the afternoon when the sun is at its most fearsome.
Vocabulary & Collocations
How these words and collocations will help us speak English fluently and confidently
As I'm writing this post, it's raining here in Mumbai. Yes, it's the rainy season in Mumbai. It's called the monsoons too. We wait for the monsoons throughout the hot season of summer which starts with the colourful festival of Holi. No one can deny the atmosphere of love that this beautiful festival brings with it. Family and friends and neighbours all get together to play with colours. But there are some for whom Holi brings even greater joy. Can you guess who they are? Yes, that's right. People in love! Sweethearts who love to play Holi because on this day, restrictions are relaxed. The bold among them will even go to the homes of their sweethearts for their passion gives them courage and they are almost fearless because on this day no one can refuse them a bit of fun. Of course, all this is done with proper behaviour and within the limits of respect and decency.
Houses everywhere are covered with splashes of colour-yellow,blue,red,orange and many more. Of course some of the colours are such that it's slightly difficult to wash them off. One does accept that it's a bit of a problem to get the colours off one's skin but the enthusiasm with which Holi is played more than makes up for this.
